G7 Multi-Stakeholder Conference on the Digital-Environment Nexus

As part of the international community, the G7 are facing a rising demand for digitalization and environmental action. Both, digitalization and environmental issues, are challenges on a global scale. Since digitalization has the potential to advance the solution of environmental and climate challenges it is important to exchange views on key issues and policy approaches to better harness this potential for environmental protection and climate change mitigation.

On April 6, we brought together stakeholders from civil society, the academic and scientific communities and the private sector to discuss key issues and policy approaches on the Digital-Environment Nexus. Building on the results of this Multi-Stakeholder Conference and to further tap into the insights and findings of our stakeholders we want to promote and deepen this interaction at a follow-up interactive online conference

on 30 November 2022, 12:00 – 15:00 CET (11:00 – 14:00 UTC)

We intend to bring together cross-sector stakeholders, especially from MSME, the tech and user sides to

• discuss input for a toolkit that identifies the potential of digitalization and policy measures to help the private sector, MSMEs in particular, to better use digital technologies to reduce their environmental footprint, including via digitally enabled business models;
  
• share approaches and suggestions for enhancing transparency and creating incentives to increase energy- and resource efficiency in the use of digital technologies and services, such as in data centres and telecommunications networks;
  
• share approaches and suggestions for promoting energy- and resource-efficient production, use, reuse, and disposal of hardware and software, including new digital technologies, for example, through technical standards, sustainability by design and empowering end-users, without duplicating existing work

The conference will be held in English (without interpretation).

We cordially invite the G7 partners to forward this save-the-date to their respective stakeholders, encouraging them to actively engage in the conference.
